This guide provides tips on how to manage your research profiles & ways to increase the visibility of your research.
"Handy tips" are highlighted throughout the guide. These will save you time and minimise data entry, for example:
Handy tip: Establish and maintain your profile on IRIS, ARAN and ORCID as a starting point.
This way you will enter your data once, and reuse it multiple times.
See http://libguides.library.nuigalway.ie/researchprofiles/ORCIDid
For example, Springer supports the use of ORCID, see their advice for authors and the short video:
A list of publishers and other organisations who provide integration with ORCID is available ont this webpage: https://orcid.org/organizations/integrators/integration-chart
See the next section of this library guide for more information on ORCID: http://libguides.library.nuigalway.ie/researchprofiles/ORCIDid

IRIS, the NUIG Institutional Research Information System, enables researchers and academic staff to maintain an up-to-date Researcher Profile to showcase their research expertise on NUIG webpages.
Some features of the system include:
The system is used to collate the University’s research outputs for institutional reports, and university rankings and to create Researcher Profile pages on NUIG school and institutional websites.
The publically available Researcher Profiles are used by academics, industry, and R&D organisations to identify potential collaborators for research projects and by potential students to identify supervisors. See http://www.nuigalway.ie/our-research/people/

ARAN is the digital collection of open access scholarly publications from NUI Galway. ARAN collects, preserves and makes freely available scholarly communication, including peer-reviewed articles, working papers and conference papers created by NUI Galway researchers. Where material has already been published it is made available subject to the open-access policies of the original publishers.
ARAN is crawled by Google Scholar, Google, OAIster and Researchgate and can expose your research to the widest possible audience.
When uploading publications to IRIS, researchers can add the final draft version for upload to ARAN. For information on how to submit, click on this link.

Open Access to Research Outputs
NUI Galway’s policy on Open Access to Research Outputs, adopted by the Academic Council in October 2015, aims to promote open access to the University’s publications. Authors of peer-reviewed articles and peer-reviewed conference papers resulting from research carried out at NUI Galway must deposit a copy in the ARAN (Access to Research at NUI Galway) repository. ARAN enables easy discovery of publications through global search engines such as Google and complements IRIS by linking from author profiles to the full text of University publications. See Help for information on how to submit your publications to ARAN.
The Library proactively supports and enhances the learning, teaching, and research activities of the University. The Library acts as a catalyst for your success as University of Galway’s hub for scholarly information discovery, sharing, and publication.
