Drone Safety and Flying Basics

This guide will provide links to resources with which you must familiarize yourself ahead of borrowing the library drone. 

As the drone operator it is your responsibility to ensure that you know how to safely and legally operate a drone. Do not operate the drone in adverse conditions, at night, or around large groups of people. Ensure that the drone is always within your line of site and that it is not operated within 30 meters of any person, vehicle or structure not under your control. 

• Keep Data Protection Regulations in mind when recording video or taking photos with the drone.
• Be aware of Special Protected Areas and restricted areas when planning a drone flight as it is illegal to fly in these areas.
• Read the IAA's Drone Regulations.
• Complete the training course at MySRS. 
• Register with the IAA as a drone operator (through MySRS).

The drones use lithium polymer batteries, more commonly known as LiPo batteries. There is a fire risk with these batteries and users should be sure to only charge the batteries in a well-ventilated attended area using the charging hub provided with the drone.
