Risk Assessment and Flight Plan

IMPORTANT

Before undertaking any drone flight you must complete a risk assessment and flight plan. If your flight is to take place on campus, submit this documentation along with your pilot registration certificate to healthsafetyteam@universityofgalway.ie at least two working days ahead of the proposed flight.

The MakerSpace in the Library has a DJI Mini 2 Drone which can be booked on the MakerSpace equipment booking page.

It is a small entry-level drone which is operated through a smartphone app and remote controller. The drone contains an onboard HD camera.

It is your responsibility as the operator of the drone to ensure that you are aware of the laws and requirements around drone storage and use and that you seek appropriate permissions before operating the drone.

Prerequisites

In order to borrow the MakerSpace drone, you must register as a drone operator through the Irish Aviation Authority. This is a legal requirement. The cost of registration is €‎40. 

  1. Go to iaa.mysrs.ie
  2. Complete online training in A1/A3 Open category
    • No need to pay for certification for the Library's drone class
  3. Complete drone pilot registration
    • Costs €40
  4. Enter pilot registration number into online form when booking drone
