Drone Safety and Flying Basics

The MakerSpace in the Library has a DJI Mini 2 Drone which can be booked on the MakerSpace equipment booking page.

It is a small entry-level drone which is operated through a smartphone app and remote controller. The drone contains an onboard HD camera.

It is your responsibility as the operator of the drone to ensure that you are aware of the laws and requirements around drone storage and use and that you seek appropriate permissions before operating the drone. This guide will provide you with some basic information on drone safety as well as resources to ensure you can operate a drone with confidence.

Prerequisites

In order to borrow the MakerSpace drone, you must register as a drone operator through the Irish Aviation Authority. This is a legal requirement. The cost of registration is €‎30. It is also advisable to attend one of the Library's regular drone safety sessions (available through the MakerSpace workshop series), though this is not required.
